On the 18th November 1981, Oscar Wichmann, with full enthusiasm and motivation, commenced his small business in Dundee by converting a house into a business premise. Oscar grew up on a farm and wanted to sell tractors and spares to the farmers in and around Dundee by assisting them to receive the implements easier and faster. He names the business, Farmtrac Spares. The name said everything about the business and was also easy to pronounce and remember. Oscar, with two other employees, traded in all tractor replacement spares.
At the end of 1984, the small business expanded and a workshop was built on the same premises. Farmtrac Spares changed its name to Farmtrac Dundee and the business grew into a medium corporative business. In January 1989, Richard Catlett, joined ownership with Oscar Wichmann.
On the 1st April 1996, Oscar and Richard joined ownership with Dieter Tschirpig, to open a company in Vryheid called Farmtrac Vryheid.
In 2009, the owners of Farmtrac Vryheid decided to open a branch in Paulpietersburg. In the year 2022, Farmtrac Group Owners decided to change the Managerial structure bringing Roland Bosse in as CEO, Cor Breedt as Financial Director, Oscar Wichmann as Group Operational Director, Richard Catlett as Sales Director and Dieter Tschirpig as Operational Director of Vryheid.

Access to finance is one of the biggest challenges facing farmers; some of the reasons include weather conditions changes, volatile input prices and changes to environmental regulations. With the anticipated increase in the world’s population plus changes to dietary preferences, food demand will increase exponentially in the coming years hence driving a need for investment in the agricultural industry. This is the reason AGCO Finance Africa is focusing on developing and implementing agricultural finance tools to enhance access to suitable financial services to farmers.
Our aim is to support the growth and development of Small Scale Farmers, Emerging Farmers and Commercial Farmers across Africa. AGCO Finance Africa will work with farmers to ensure they can obtain the right equipment which will ensure business growth whilst improving cash flow and credit ratings.
AGCO Finance Africa has created strategic partnerships with reputable, well rated financial institutions across Africa. This allows AGCO Finance Africa to offer simple and affordable solutions through local financial institutions that understand local business, financial sector and economic challenges.
Finance Leasing The farmer can use the machine under a lease for a stipulated period with regular structured payment which is commonly known as rent-to own. The amount the farmer pays over the stipulated time can go towards the eventual payment of the machine at the end of the lease.
Installment purchase This allows farmers to purchase a machine over a period of time. The farmer gains the use of the machine immediately and then pays over a period of time until the obligation is fulfilled (installment). The farmer can make a down payment by cash or trade-in.
